This book is about a boy named Mafatu who lives on an island with a tribe. Everybody says that he is a coward because he is afraid of the sea. But then one night he heard some people talking about him, so he took a canoe and sailed off into the ocean to prove he was not afraid. Then he gets stranded on another island and stays there for awhile to show he is brave. Then he sails back to his homeland. I think this book won the Newbery Medal because it is full of adventure.

This book is about a man named Matteo Alocran (called El Patron) having a clone. The clone's usefulness is if El Parton gets sick and an organ dies, Matt's (the clone's) organs will come to be helpful for El Patron. When El Patron dies on his 148th birthday, Matt is kicked out. Matt has to survive on his own by going through several places and almost through death. Matt meets new people and friends. I think it got the award because it is an interesting and captivating book.

This book is a great story. Brian is on a plane to see his dad when the pilot has a heart attack. They crash in the Canadian woods. Brian gets our of the the plane before it sinks into a lake. If you want to read about Brian's adventure, I suggest you read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I think it got a Newbery award because of all the adventure.

I think The Higher Power of Lucky is a fantastic book. It's about a girl named Lucky and she is trying to find her higher power. She plans to run away, but Miles is lost and on her way she finds him hiding. Read the book to find out what happens next. Monsieur Duford had a child whose name was Clement. Monsieur's wife died right after she gave birth to their son. Monsieur hired a french widow to be his son's nurse and tutor. Monsieur fell in love so he and his son traveled to Macouba. Monsieur fell in love with Pauline the niece of Monsieur Zabocat. Monsieur married Pauline, her uncle was very upset.
I think this book deserves the award because it showed how to stick together and you can accomplish anything.

In the book Hatchet, there was a thirteen year old boy named Brian who was in a plane to visit his dad. Then his pilot has a heart attack and Brian crash lands the plane in a lake. Brian does many things to catch food and get water.
I think this book is a Newberry Award winner because it has real life cases, suspense and a little bit of action. I loved this book.

The book Hide and Seek Fog is a great book to read. It tells about how a lobster man sees the fog roll in. The boat race is cancelled, the mom tries to brighten every one's spirit by putting on bright colored clothes. The lobster man pasts time by painting buoys. He could also hear he mournful lost voices of the foghorns. The children played hide and seek in the fog and the men and women needed lanterns to see through the fog. The next day the fog cleared and the fishermen arranged another boat race. I think it got the Caldecott Award because of it's great illustrations.

If you like this book, read the Warriors series also by Erin Hunter.

My Father's Dragon is about a kid that wants to get this stray cat, but when his mom sees the cat and her milk and bowl she said, "NO". But one day when his mom was not home he found the cat and took it back to his house, but then his mom threw it out. But the kid went and found him. They were talking about all the adventures that the cat had going on. I think this is a Newbery book because it is like you are in a different world. The kid wanted to go all over the world, like the cat did.

This book is mostly about a boy named Holling Hoodhood who has to stay at school every Wednesday with his homeroom teacher Mrs. Baker, who has a husband in the military. At the beginning of the book, Holling thinks that Mrs. Baker hates his guts. But towards the end of the book, he finds out that Mrs. Baker doesn't hat his guts. She really likes Holling. Holling and the class learn a lot because Mrs. Baker teaches English and sentence diagramming to the 7th graders. I think it should be a Newbery Honor Book because it's a biography with a twist. It is a picture book and also a novel at the same time. Three for the price of one, has a very valuable meaning and you enjoy it when you read it. That's why it deserves a Newbery Honor Book Award.

Strega Nona had a magical pot that would cook soup in a second! A young man that helps Strega Nona saw how she made it cook but he did not know how to turn it off. He turned it on but the pot just kept overflowing! He had to eat all of the pasta to clean the village. This book is about a Red Cross Knight that is sent by fairies to battle the furious, scaly dragon. The Red Cross Knight was ready to battle when the great dragon came. The knight had the Princess Una for company. One day the town heard the roar of the dragon. Read the book to find out what happens. I think this book got the award because the drawings are so realistic.

Rabbit Hill is about animals who live near or on a hill. The time is rough because there isn't much food to support the families. Little Georgie, a rabbit, is sent to get Uncle Analdas, since he was living beyond the hill alone. There are also new folks coming, which caused Little Georgie to make up a song. After uncle Analdas comes back with Little Georgie the new folks come. With them they bring an old cat who won't even hurt a fly. The new folks also put up a sign that says "Please drive carefully on account of small animals". The new folks also have a garden which on Midsummer's cue they pick which vegetables they want. I think this book got the Newbery Award because it has great details, along with the characters of the book. It also has suspense and humour, which makes the reader want to continue reading. :)

In the book Joyful Noise there are two voices that are very joyful. In this book there are lots of insects that talk in a unique way. They all need food so they go on their mission to find the food. There are lots of insects. My favorite two are the grasshopper and butterfly. This is a great book.

Welcome Blair Bulldogs to the world of blogging!
You might be asking right about now, "What is a blog"? Well, it is short for web log, which is a type of website similiar to an online news page or diary. The entries are called blogs, and the authors are called bloggers.
