Hatchet by Gary Paulson
Hatchet is about a teenage boy named Brain Robeson who is flying to visit his dad in Canada when a pilot suddenly has a heart attack and dies. The plane eventually runs out of gas and Brian steers the plane into a lake on the way down. From there on Brian is forced to eat wild things, drink lake water, and deal with great pain. Will Brian escape the wild? Find out by reading Hatchet.
I think Hatchet got the Newbery Award because the author uses great adjectives to describe Brian and the forest. Gary Paulson also uses great words to describe the way Brian feels.

You and Nick need to get together and discuss this book. As I told him, we have more in this same series in the library. Come and check them out!
