Nathan in Ms. Constantine's room

Martin's Big Words by Doreen Rappaport

When Martin was a little boy he always saw signs that said: "Whites only". Then he felt like he was just a nobody and only whites can be good people. Until his mother told him "you are as good as anybody".Martin grew up and became a minister like his dad, and he told blacks and some whites "everyone can be great".One day Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a speech "I have a dream, that one day in Alabama little black boys and black girls will join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers". One day he was walking out of his motel and he was shot. He died. Now we all know that we are equal.
I think that this book should be a Newbery book because this is a very important lesson too teach little children and also just a very cool book to read.

  1. I am glad that you liked this book, but it did not actually win a Newbery honor. Instead it was chosen for the Caldecott honor for the best picture book. Did you like the pictures in this book?
